PDP Confident of Reclaiming Edo in 2027

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in its ability to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. This sentiment was echoed by the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, while monitoring the party’s ward congresses in Benin City. The congresses aimed to elect new executives and delegates across the 192 wards in the state.

Despite the heavy downpour, a large turnout of party members was observed, with many defying the weather conditions to participate in the electoral process. Aziegbemi noted that the party is experiencing a resurgence in the state, citing the enthusiasm and commitment of its members as evidence. The peaceful conduct of the congresses was also commended, with Aziegbemi attributing the success to the unity and resilience of party members.

The chairman acknowledged initial concerns about the outcome of the congresses but was pleasantly surprised by the vibrant and active participation of members. He believes that the perceived failure of the APC government, both at the federal and state levels, will create an opportunity for the PDP to reclaim Edo in 2027.

The ward congresses were monitored by Media Talk Africa at Oredo Wards I, II, and III in Benin City, with reports indicating a peaceful and orderly process. The Chairman of the PDP Ward Congress Electoral Committee, Tariga Tulagha, also commended the unity and cooperation displayed by party members, dismissing speculation about internal crises within the party.

Tulagha emphasized that the outcome of the polls reflected a strong sense of unity and purpose among party members, with no evidence of division or factionalism. The successful conduct of the ward congresses is seen as a significant step towards the 2027 general elections, with the PDP poised to challenge the APC’s dominance in the state. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the Edo State PDP’s renewed sense of purpose and unity will likely be a key factor in the upcoming elections.
