African Democratic Congress Disowns Dumebi Kachikwu

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that Dumebi Kachikwu, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, is no longer a member and therefore lacks the authority to influence the party’s leadership composition. This statement was made by the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, while interacting with journalists in Abuja on Saturday.

The development comes after Kachikwu criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for recognizing David Mark as the ADC’s national chairman. Kachikwu had expressed dissatisfaction with INEC’s decision, describing the electoral body as irresponsible and stating that he had never had faith in its current leadership.

In response, Abdullahi emphasized that being a former presidential candidate does not grant Kachikwu ownership or a permanent say in the party’s direction. Abdullahi noted that Kachikwu was given the party’s ticket to run in a specific election, but this does not entitle him to a lasting role in the party’s decision-making process.

The ADC spokesman also criticized Kachikwu for using divisive rhetoric and referring to the party’s leadership as “old people.” Abdullahi acknowledged that the party is aware of the challenges posed by forces seeking to destabilize opposition parties, including the ADC coalition.

The ADC’s clarification on Kachikwu’s status and role within the party aims to establish a clear understanding of the party’s leadership and composition. As the party navigates its internal dynamics and interactions with electoral bodies, it remains focused on its goals and objectives. The development highlights the complexities of party politics in Nigeria and the need for clear communication and definition of roles within political organizations.
