The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised alarm over alleged plans to target one of its members in the State House of Assembly, Ibraheem Shittu. Shittu, who represents the Saki West constituency, recently spoke out against the Assembly’s approval of a ₦300 billion loan for Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to the Oyo State APC, a plot has been uncovered to harass, attack, and victimize the lawmaker. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, claimed in a statement that some of Governor Makinde’s loyalists are behind the scheme. Sadare said the House leadership intends to accuse Shittu of breaching certain rules, which could lead to his indefinite suspension from the Assembly complex.
The APC asserts that Shittu is being targeted for responding to an inquiry from his party about his involvement in the loan approval. The party believes the governor’s loyalists are attempting to silence opposition voices in the state. Consequently, the Oyo State APC has called on prominent personalities to intervene and persuade Governor Makinde to halt these plans. It has also urged the heads of state security agencies to ensure Shittu’s safety and protect his rights as a citizen.
The controversy surrounding the ₦300 billion loan has sparked debate in Oyo State, with the APC questioning the loan’s purpose and its potential impact on the state’s finances. The alleged targeting of Shittu has raised concerns about the political climate in Oyo and the treatment of opposition members. The situation is being closely monitored, and it remains to be seen how events will unfold.
These allegations underscore the need for transparency and accountability in state governance, as well as the importance of safeguarding the rights of all citizens, including elected officials.
