APC Spokesman: Atiku Irrelevant, Desperate for Power

Atiku Desperate For Power, Needs Rest — APC's Morka • Channels Television

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to criticism from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who expressed concerns over the country’s worsening poverty and hunger. Atiku, 78, who has contested for the presidency multiple times, warned that the situation could lead to social unrest and criminality.

In a statement, Atiku cited historical examples, including the French Revolution and the Arab Spring, as outcomes of widespread deprivation and government indifference. He also drew parallels to Nigeria’s own EndSARS protests, attributing them to public frustration and hunger. Atiku claimed that the masses of Nigerians are progressively wallowing in misery and poverty under the watch of the current administration.

The APC spokesman, Morka, reacted to Atiku’s statement on Channels Television’s Politics Today, saying that the former vice president is desperate for power. Morka argued that Atiku’s comments are driven by his desire to become president, and that Nigerians have rejected him multiple times in the past. According to Morka, Atiku has become irrelevant to any consideration of prosperity for the future of Nigeria.

Atiku has contested for the presidency in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023 under different political parties. He served as vice president from 1999 to 2007. The APC spokesman emphasized that Nigerians are not paying attention to Atiku’s comments, as they know his motivations.

Atiku’s warning about the risks of worsening poverty and hunger comes two years into the current administration. He stressed that there are no manifest signs that hunger and poverty are being addressed effectively, and that reforms must prioritize citizens’ welfare. The former vice president’s comments highlight the ongoing challenges facing Nigeria, and the need for effective solutions to address poverty and hunger.
