Atiku Desperate For Power, Needs Rest — APC's Morka • Channels Television

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to criticism from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who warned that Nigeria’s worsening poverty and hunger could spark social unrest and criminality. At 78, Atiku—who has contested the presidency multiple times—cited historical examples such as the French Revolution and the Arab Spring as outcomes of widespread deprivation and government indifference. He also linked Nigeria’s own EndSARS protests to public frustration and hunger, claiming that Nigerians are increasingly wallowing in misery under the current administration.

In a statement on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, APC spokesman Morka dismissed Atiku’s remarks as a desperate bid for power. Morka argued that Atiku’s comments are driven by his personal ambition to become president and noted that Nigerians have rejected him repeatedly in past elections. He added that Atiku has become irrelevant to any discussion of Nigeria’s future prosperity.

Atiku’s political résumé includes presidential runs in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023 under various parties, as well as serving as vice president from 1999 to 2007. According to Morka, the public is not swayed by Atiku’s warnings because they understand his motivations.

The former vice president’s warning comes two years into the current administration, emphasizing that there are no clear signs that hunger and poverty are being effectively addressed. He urged that reforms prioritize citizens’ welfare, highlighting the ongoing challenges Nigeria faces and the need for effective solutions to combat poverty and hunger.
