A popular TikToker, Olaoluwa Segun, has shared his experience of being detained at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, also known as Panti, after actress Dayo Amusa filed a petition against him. Segun had previously named Amusa among a list of celebrities living with HIV, which she strongly denied.
The incident occurred in July 2025, when Segun posted a viral list claiming that several celebrities, including Amusa, were living with HIV. Amusa responded by debunking the claim, stating that she had only made a post about her HIV status in 2019 to educate her fans. She also threatened to take action against Segun for spreading false information.
Following the petition, Segun was invited by the police and subsequently detained at Panti for two days. He described the experience as the worst of his life, after the death of his mother. During his time in the cell, he was forced to prostrate and greet other inmates, and was exposed to poor living conditions, including a cell with four pit latrines and one uncovered window.
Segun reported that the cell was overcrowded, with 60 people sleeping on cold tiles. He also claimed that the cell was the same one where musician Naira Marley was held when he was arrested. However, Segun’s experience was made slightly more bearable by one of the inmates, who recognized him as a TikToker and protected him from harsh treatment.
In a surprising turn of events, Amusa has since forgiven Segun, which he believes led to his release from detention. Segun expressed his appreciation for Amusa’s change of heart, stating that he would have stayed in detention for a longer period if she had not intervened. The incident highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it on social media, and the potential consequences of spreading false news.
