Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has announced that over 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Maigatari Local Government Area. This significant influx of new members is expected to bolster the APC’s presence in the state.
The defections were revealed during a weekly citizens’ engagement program in Maigatari, where Governor Namadi spoke about the new entrants and their potential to strengthen the party’s base. He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among party members, citing the need for a strong and cohesive APC in Jigawa State.
In addition to the defections, Governor Namadi also discussed plans to collaborate with the Federal Government on several key projects. These include the remodeling of the Maigatari Export Processing Zone, which is expected to boost economic activity in the area, and initiatives to address the recurring flooding that affects local communities. The flooding has been a persistent problem, causing damage to homes and infrastructure, and the governor’s announcement has been welcomed by residents who are eager for a solution.
APC Deputy Chairman in Jigawa State, Nasiru Dahiru, also spoke at the event, reaffirming the party’s support for Governor Namadi and warning against acts of sabotage. He cautioned party members that anyone found working against the administration would face disciplinary action, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation within the party.
The defections and the governor’s announcements are significant developments in Jigawa State’s political landscape. As the APC continues to grow and strengthen its presence, the party is well-positioned to address the state’s challenges and capitalize on its opportunities. With the support of its members and the cooperation of the Federal Government, the APC is poised to make a positive impact in Jigawa State and beyond.
