The Nigerian Army has announced plans to establish a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. According to a credible source at Army Headquarters, the FOB will be situated on a 400-hectare plot of land allocated to the army along the Anyigba–Iyale road. This development is part of the army’s efforts to enhance security presence and operations in Kogi East Senatorial District.
On September 16, a team led by the Deputy Chief of Operations (Army), Major-General P.B. Kaughna, conducted an assessment visit to the proposed site. The team was received by the Commander of 12 Brigade, Brigadier-General K.U. Sidi, before proceeding to inspect the land. As part of the visit, the delegation also paid a courtesy call to the traditional ruler of Anyigba, the Ogohi-Onu Anyigba, Alhaji Shuaibu Okolo, prior to commencing the land survey.
During the assessment visit, the team also stopped at troops’ locations in FOB Oguma, Ejule, and Patrol Base Ayingba, where they interacted with personnel and evaluated their operational readiness. The exercise was reportedly hitch-free, reaffirming the army’s commitment to boosting security and stability across Kogi State. The establishment of the new FOB is expected to contribute to the ongoing efforts to strengthen security in the region.
The Nigerian Army has been working to enhance its presence and operations in various parts of the country, particularly in areas prone to insecurity. The establishment of the new FOB in Kogi State is a significant development in this regard, as it will enable the army to respond more effectively to security challenges in the region. With the proposed FOB, the army aims to improve its operational capabilities and provide a safer environment for the local population. The development is seen as a positive step towards addressing the security concerns in Kogi State and surrounding areas.
