Nigeria LNG Ltd. (NLNG) has been recognized as the 2025 Best Corporate Training Partner by the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN). The award was presented at the 4th edition of the OGTAN Human Capital Development Awards in Lagos. According to Dr. Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development, the award acknowledges the company’s long-standing commitment to workforce development, skills transfer, and capacity building within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The award was received by Mr. Emmanuel Uleh, Head of Nigerian Content Compliance Assurance and Monitoring, who reiterated NLNG’s strong commitment to human capital development. He emphasized that the company views capacity development as a central part of its corporate social responsibility agenda, particularly in education. NLNG has a history of promoting local capacity development, having trained Nigerian technicians and operators for the operation and maintenance of its Bonny Island plant since its inception.
This approach has yielded significant results, with NLNG now boasting a 100% Nigerian management team and a workforce that is over 95% Nigerian. The company has empowered thousands of Nigerians with industry-relevant skills, vocational training, and formal education support through strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives. Over 600 Nigerians have been trained in highly technical areas, including naval architecture, shipbuilding, welding, and fabrication, under the Bonny Gas Transport Plus Project.
In collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and OGTAN, NLNG has trained over 150 people through its asset projects. Additionally, under the Train 7 Project’s Human Capital Development program, more than 400 Nigerians are undergoing training, including 140 in plant maintenance and 200 community youths preparing for future operations. NLNG’s corporate social responsibility programs continue to prioritize education as a driver of national development, with the company awarding scholarships to students at post-primary and undergraduate levels.
The company’s efforts reflect its vision of being a globally competitive energy company, inspiring a sustainable future. The OGTAN Human Capital Development Awards have consistently celebrated organizations and individuals making significant contributions to human capital development since its inception. This recognition reinforces NLNG’s commitment to developing the skills and capacities of Nigerians, aligning with national development goals and sustainability priorities.
