Amotekun arrests 51 suspected criminals in Ondo State

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has announced the arrest of 51 suspected criminals, including an escaped convict from the Okitipupa Correctional Centre. The suspects were apprehended across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state, according to Adetunji Adeleye, State Commander of the Corps.

The commander revealed that the escaped convict had committed another crime before being apprehended by Amotekun operatives. Of the 51 suspects, 37 were arrested for breaching law and order, six for kidnapping, and one for rape. The arrests were made as part of the agency’s efforts to maintain security and stability in the state.

The suspects have undergone various stages of interrogation, with 35 set to face trial in a court of competent jurisdiction. The remaining suspects will undergo an internal dispute resolution process, which may lead to further prosecution if necessary. Notably, the agency was able to dismantle a kidnapping syndicate and arrest one of its armourers, who has confessed to involvement in five major kidnap operations within the state.

The Amotekun Corps has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Ondo State. The agency’s efforts are geared towards creating a secure environment that fosters investment, economic growth, and food security. By combating crime and maintaining law and order, the Corps aims to protect residents, investors, and farmers, thereby promoting overall development in the state.

The arrests and subsequent prosecution of the suspects demonstrate the agency’s resolve to address security concerns in Ondo State. As the Corps continues to work towards a safer and more secure environment, residents can expect increased efforts to prevent and respond to crime. The agency’s actions underscore the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the community in maintaining peace and stability.
