Ekiti Governor Unfazed by Party Rival Ahead of Primaries

Ekiti 2026: APC factions clash over Oyebanji's re-election ambition

A former lawmaker from Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1, Bimbo Daramola, has expressed confidence in the chances of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the upcoming All Progressive Congress (APC) primary elections. Daramola stated that Oyebanji is unfazed by fellow aspirant Kayode Ojo, citing the governor’s democratic stance.

Addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Daramola refuted rumors that Oyebanji had prohibited cabinet members and local government chairmen from interacting with Ojo and other aspirants. He emphasized that Oyebanji, as a democrat, is entitled to express his views on any issue.

Regarding the APC’s internal dynamics, Daramola maintained that there is no crisis within the party. He predicted that Oyebanji would emerge victorious in the primary elections without any significant challenges. When asked about the potential method of primary election, Daramola asserted that Oyebanji possesses the necessary qualities to defeat other aspirants, regardless of whether the party opts for direct or indirect primary elections.

Daramola also defended Oyebanji’s decision to take a large number of stakeholders to the APC Secretariat in Abuja to submit his nomination form, stating that the governor is a widely respected figure. He noted that Oyebanji’s actions demonstrate his strong connections within the party and the state.

In response to questions about Ojo’s candidacy, Daramola chose not to comment extensively, citing their personal friendship and respect for one another. However, he emphasized that Oyebanji’s confidence in his own abilities is evident, and he is not intimidated by any opponent.

The APC primary elections are scheduled to take place on October 27. As the party prepares for this crucial event, Daramola’s comments suggest that Oyebanji is well-positioned to secure the nomination. The outcome of the primary elections will likely have significant implications for the state’s political landscape, and observers will be closely watching the developments in the coming weeks.
