Rivers Governor Fubara Attends Church Service After Reinstatement

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara attended his first Sunday church service since his reinstatement, calling for steadfast prayers as his administration begins anew. Accompanied by his wife, Valerie, and various stakeholders, Governor Fubara visited the Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in his hometown of Opobo, where he expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness to his family, the state, and the nation.

The church service coincided with the 2025 Harvest of Divine Possibilities celebration, but Governor Fubara stated that his primary mission was to offer thanks to God. He emphasized the importance of pure-hearted worship, acknowledging that nothing can equal God’s goodness. The governor appreciated the church’s prayers, which he believed sustained his family and administration during challenging times, averting shame and bringing divine intervention.

As the world marked the International Day of Peace, Governor Fubara reminded the congregation of the need to remain peaceful. A special prayer was led by the Church’s Vicar, Venerable Emmanuel Nwuju, for the First Family. Governor Fubara, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was elected as governor of Rivers State on May 29, 2023, succeeding former governor Nyesom Wike.

The state had experienced a period of turmoil, with impeachment moves, protests, and violence, including the burning of the Assembly complex, prompted by a disagreement between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, over control of state structures and resources. However, President Bola Tinubu intervened by declaring a state of emergency on March 18, which was later lifted on Wednesday, restoring democratic order in the state.

With the emergency rule lifted, Governor Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly can resume work. The governor’s supporters celebrated his return, gathering at the Government House in Port Harcourt. As Governor Fubara’s administration recommences, the focus will be on maintaining peace and stability in the state, with the support of the church and the community. The governor’s reinstatement marks a new beginning for Rivers State, and his administration will likely prioritize rebuilding and strengthening the state’s institutions.
