Drone sightings disrupt Copenhagen Oslo airports

Airports in Copenhagen and Oslo have resumed operations after unidentified drones were spotted in their airspace, causing flight diversions and disruptions. According to police, several large drones were seen over Copenhagen airport for several hours late on Monday before flying away on their own. Deputy Police Inspector Jakob Hansen stated that the drones have disappeared and the airport is open again, with police cooperating with the Danish military and intelligence service to determine their origin.

In Oslo, drone sightings also led to the closure of the airport for several hours. Oslo airport spokeswoman Monica Fasting reported two separate drone sightings, with the airport reopening around 3:15 am local time. Flights were diverted to nearby destinations during the closures, and officials at both airports expect some delays and disruptions to continue.

The incidents follow recent allegations by the governments of Poland, Estonia, and Romania that Russia has violated their airspace, which Moscow has denied. When asked if the drones above Copenhagen airport could have originated from Russia, Hansen said that the origin of the drones is currently unknown.

The closures and subsequent reopenings of the airports in Copenhagen and Oslo have resulted in travel disruptions, with some flights still experiencing delays. Authorities are working to investigate the source of the drones and prevent similar incidents in the future. The cooperation between police and military agencies in Denmark and Norway highlights the importance of addressing such security threats.

As the situation continues to unfold, airports and airlines are taking precautions to minimize the impact of potential drone sightings on air travel. The European aviation sector has faced several instances of drone-related disruptions in recent years, emphasizing the need for effective measures to mitigate such risks. With the investigation into the Copenhagen and Oslo drone incidents ongoing, the international community is closely monitoring the situation, seeking to ensure the safety and security of air travel.
