ADC Faction Sets Conditions for Mark, Aregbesola’s Return

ADC faction gives David Mark, Aregbesola, Atiku, El-Rufai, others conditions to be accepted

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has set conditions for the acceptance of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, leaders of the interim leadership, back into the party. According to Abimiku Monday, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication to the acting National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, Mark and Aregbesola must follow the legal process of joining the party through the electoral wards and identify with the existing structure of the ADC.

Monday made this statement while appearing on Arise Television’s Morning Show, emphasizing that the party is open to alignment with the Mark-led leadership, but only if they adhere to the party’s constitution and procedures. He noted that the party welcomes interaction and realignment, but not at the expense of its structure and constitution.

The development comes after the opposition coalition, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Babachir Lawal, and Peter Obi, adopted the ADC a few months ago. Following the adoption, Mark was elected as Interim National Chairman, and Aregbesola was named Interim National Secretary. However, the Gombe faction of the party, led by Nafiu Bala, opposed this move and instituted a legal action against the coalition.

The ADC has been at the center of political developments in recent months, with various factions and interests vying for control. The party’s constitution and procedures are expected to play a crucial role in resolving the current impasse. Monday’s statement suggests that the party is willing to engage with the Mark-led leadership, but only within the bounds of the party’s rules and regulations.

The outcome of this development is likely to have significant implications for the ADC and the broader political landscape. As the party navigates its internal conflicts, it remains to be seen whether the conditions set by the Bala faction will be met, and what the consequences will be for the party’s future. The ADC’s ability to resolve its internal differences and present a united front will be crucial in the coming months.
