ADC Inaugurates Local Council Executives in 21 Imo LGAs

I'm ready to step aside for new leader - Kebbi ADC chairperson welcomes coalition

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has inaugurated its Local Council Executive Committee members in 21 out of the 27 local government areas (LGAs) in the state. The inauguration, which took place at the party’s secretariat in Owerri, marks a significant step in the party’s efforts to establish a strong presence at the grassroots level.

According to the state chairman of the party, Professor James Okoroma, the event signals a fresh beginning for the party’s political endeavors in the state. Okoroma emphasized that the party is well-prepared to engage in any political contest, indicating its determination to make a meaningful impact in the state’s political landscape.

The party’s decision to inaugurate executives in only 21 LGAs was due to pending issues in the remaining six areas, which are yet to be resolved. Okoroma explained that the party prioritized transparency in the exercise, ensuring that all major political blocs within the party were represented in the nomination process. This approach is in line with the party’s constitution, which outlines the composition of the local government structure under Article 13.

The local government structure comprises LGA Working Committees and Executive Committees, with a total of 53 positions. Okoroma advised members who did not make the list to be patient, as there are other positions available within the party’s structure. He emphasized that the party’s primary focus is to deliver the state from failed leadership and that the newly inaugurated executives are poised to play a crucial role in achieving this goal.

Okoroma also urged members to resolve any disputes through internal mechanisms, citing the Supreme Court’s ruling that the party’s constitution is supreme and cannot be violated by individuals or groups. The inauguration was witnessed by members of the State Executive Working Committee and other party members, underscoring the party’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the state.

The development is significant, as it highlights the ADC’s efforts to reposition itself as a major player in Imo State’s politics. With the inauguration of its local council executives, the party is gearing up to challenge the status quo and provide an alternative to the state’s current leadership. As the party moves forward, it is likely to face various challenges, but its determination to deliver the state from failed leadership is a clear indication of its resolve to make a positive impact.
