APC Open to Kwankwaso’s Return Amid Party Rules

2027: Kwankwaso moving back to APC, NNPP dead - Ganduje

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has indicated its willingness to welcome back Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former member, provided he adheres to the party’s rules and constitution. This statement was made by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the former National Chairman of the APC, in an interview with BBC Hausa. Ganduje emphasized that the APC operates strictly by its constitution, implying that any returning member, including Kwankwaso, would not receive special treatment and must face the consequences of their prior decisions.

Recent reports suggested that Kwankwaso had initiated contact with the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, regarding a potential return to the party. However, Kwankwaso has denied these claims, describing them as baseless. Reacting to the speculation, Ganduje stated that if Kwankwaso were to rejoin the APC, it would be akin to “licking his vomit,” suggesting that Kwankwaso would need to acknowledge past mistakes before seeking a fresh start within the party.

Regarding the state of the APC in Kano, Ganduje confirmed that the party has resolved its internal divisions. A stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja reviewed the APC’s performance in the 2023 elections and expressed approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership. Ganduje also dismissed rumors of a rift with Tinubu, stating that their relationship remains strong and that the Kano APC is fully supportive of the president. The party is determined to reclaim the state in the 2027 elections.

The development comes as the APC continues to navigate its post-election landscape. With the 2023 elections behind them, the party is focusing on rebuilding and strategizing for future elections. The potential return of Kwankwaso, a significant political figure, could impact the party’s dynamics and influence its prospects in upcoming elections. As the APC moves forward, it will be important to monitor how the party navigates internal relationships and prepares for the challenges ahead.
