The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has called for increased collaboration with teaching and non-teaching unions to enhance the state’s education sector. TESCOM Chairman, Biodun Sanyaolu, made the appeal during a meeting with leaders of the All Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) in Abeokuta.
Sanyaolu emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and cooperation between the commission and the unions, describing them as critical stakeholders in the education sector. He noted that their support and collaboration are essential for the successful implementation of policies aimed at advancing teaching and learning in secondary schools across the state. The commission has introduced initiatives to enhance efficiency, fairness, and transparency in its operations, with the goal of boosting staff morale and ensuring quality service delivery.
The TESCOM chairman also addressed the deployment of newly inducted principals and vice principals, assuring that postings would be based on existing vacancies, seniority, and merit. He explained that efforts are ongoing to ensure the equitable distribution of teachers across schools, taking into account teacher-student ratios, subject requirements, and the creation of a conducive teaching and learning environment.
In response, the union leaders commended TESCOM for prioritizing the welfare of teaching and non-teaching staff and assured their continued collaboration with the commission. The meeting highlighted the need for collective effort to strengthen the education sector in Ogun State. With the commission’s initiatives and the unions’ cooperation, the state’s education system is poised for improvement. The collaboration is expected to yield positive outcomes, including enhanced teacher morale, improved student performance, and a more efficient education system.
