Tinubu’s Northwest Support Grows Amidst Infrastructure Projects

Nigeria’s North-West region is expected to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, according to public affairs analyst Olaniyi Olawale. Olawale cited the president’s implementation of landmark projects in the region as a key reason for this anticipated support. Notably, the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano roads are nearing completion, and the Kano-Maiduguri road project is also progressing, with sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 almost finished.

Additionally, the Kano-Katsina project is nearing completion, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to the region’s development. Olawale, who is also the coordinator of the Progressive Foundation Movement, highlighted that stakeholders in Kano, including former All Progressives Congress chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and lawmakers like Abubakar Bichi, are rallying behind President Tinubu due to his administration’s focus on the region’s development.

A significant upcoming project in the region is the Light Rail project in Kano State, which is expected to cost over $1 billion. President Tinubu is scheduled to lay the foundation for this project in the next one to two months. This initiative is poised to become one of the most important projects in Northern Nigeria, underscoring the administration’s investment in the region’s infrastructure.

The mobilization of support for President Tinubu by key figures like Ganduje and Bichi underscores the significance of the region’s backing for the president’s re-election bid. The North-West region’s support is considered crucial in the 2027 general election, and the administration’s development projects are likely to play a key role in securing this support. As the election approaches, the region’s response to President Tinubu’s development initiatives will be closely watched, with potential implications for the outcome of the election.
