The Nigerian Police Force has paid tribute to its former Inspector-General, Solomon Arase, who recently passed away. Olukayode Egbetokun, the current Inspector-General of Police, led the tribute during a Guard of Honour Parade held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Arase, who served as the 18th Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, was appointed to the position in April 2015. According to Egbetokun, the late police chief will be remembered for his distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation. The Guard of Honour Parade was a solemn duty carried out with deep respect, marking the final farewell to the late former police chief.
Egbetokun described Arase as one of the finest officers to have served in the Nigerian Police Force, leaving a legacy of distinguished service. He noted that Arase’s life taught valuable lessons about the impact of true service, which will endure across generations. The late former Inspector-General’s tenure was marked by significant policy and national reforms in the police force, emphasizing professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rule of law.
Arase’s administration believed that effective policing required not only strength of arms but also strength of character and compassion. After his career in the police force, Arase’s service to the nation continued as Chairman of the Police Service Commission. In this role, he approached his oversight with the same candor and vision that defined his policing career.
The Nigeria Police Force has extended its profound condolences to Arase’s family, the Police Service Commission, the government, and the people of Nigeria. The tribute to the late Inspector-General serves as a reminder of his significant contributions to the country’s law enforcement and his enduring legacy. The police force will likely continue to draw on the lessons and reforms implemented during Arase’s tenure, ensuring that his impact on Nigerian law enforcement endures.
