The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State has suspended Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, over alleged anti-party activities. According to Sunday Onukwubiri, the State Chairman of APGA in Abia, the suspension is indefinite and was implemented after Abaribe claimed to be a leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The news of Abaribe’s suspension was first announced by Peter Nduka, the State Secretary of APGA in Abia, following a State Executive Council meeting. Onukwubiri confirmed the suspension, stating that the party had applied the rules outlined in the APGA constitution. He explained that Abaribe was given a 24-hour ultimatum to refute his alleged claims of being an ADC leader, but he failed to respond.
The APGA Chairman emphasized that Abaribe’s actions were seen as an insult to the party, as he cannot be a member of APGA while also holding a leadership position in another party. Onukwubiri noted that the party had invited Abaribe to address the issue about a month ago, but he did not respond.
When contacted for comment, Uche Awom, the media aide to Senator Abaribe, declined to speak on the matter, stating that there was nothing to say at the present time. The suspension of Abaribe is significant, as it highlights the ongoing tensions and power struggles within Nigerian politics.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance is one of the major political parties in Nigeria, and the suspension of a prominent figure like Abaribe is likely to have implications for the party’s dynamics and future elections. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how Abaribe will respond to the suspension and what impact it will have on his political career.
