PENGASSAN declares nationwide strike over Dangote refinery issues

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has announced a nationwide strike, effective Monday, September 29, 2025. In a statement issued after the association’s National Executive Council meeting on Saturday, PENGASSAN directed all its members to cease providing services at 12:01 AM on Monday. This includes members working in various offices, companies, institutions, and agencies across the country.

As part of the strike, members stationed in field locations, including control room operations, panel operations, and outfield personnel, have been instructed to withdraw their services starting at 6:00 AM on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Instead, they will commence a round-the-clock prayer vigil, calling on God to intervene and prompt those in authority to ensure compliance with Nigerian laws, particularly by Dangote and its associates.

During the strike period, PENGASSAN has stated that no interventions will be allowed across field locations unless the safety of personnel and assets is at risk. In such cases, clearance must be obtained from the National Secretariat. Furthermore, the association has directed that all processes involving gas and crude supply to Dangote Refinery be halted immediately.

The strike is a significant development in the ongoing tensions between PENGASSAN and Dangote, with the association citing the need for Dangote to adhere to Nigerian laws. PENGASSAN has emphasized that no individual or entity is above the law, and the strike is a collective call to action to protect the interests of all Nigerians.

As the strike commences, the association has urged its members to stand united in their demands, emphasizing that “an injury to one is an injury to all.” With the strike set to impact various sectors, including gas and crude supply, the situation is being closely monitored by industry stakeholders and authorities. The developments will likely have significant implications for the Nigerian energy sector and the economy at large.
