The Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his response to the recent terrorist attack on residents of Wagga Mongoro in Madagali Local Government Area. According to the party, Atiku’s statement was inaccurate and represented a “shameful grandstanding” that politicized the tragedy instead of showing solidarity with the victims.
The APC, in a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi, alleged that Atiku’s reaction was characterized by a “comedy of errors,” with incorrect information about the location and number of casualties. The party further stated that Atiku and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) government he once served contributed to the country’s insecurity, making his current stance hypocritical.
Atiku, who served as Vice President, was accused of failing to attract meaningful projects to Adamawa State, including his hometown of Jada, while focusing on personal business ventures. The APC noted that during the Boko Haram insurgency, which displaced families and shut down livelihoods in Adamawa communities, Atiku remained silent. However, now that peace is gradually returning under the APC leadership, he has found his voice, which the party described as an attempt to exploit the situation for political gain.
In contrast, the APC maintained that the current administration is taking proactive steps to address the insecurity, with competent and patriotic hands supporting the armed forces and security agencies. The party described Atiku’s approach as “callous and reckless,” emphasizing that a leader should not prioritize personal politics over the welfare of the people.
The APC expressed solidarity with the victims of the Madagali attack and offered prayers for the bereaved and the injured. The party assured citizens that the insurgents would be defeated, stating that the people of Adamawa are not deceived by empty posturing and know who has genuinely stood with them during their darkest hours.
The controversy surrounding Atiku’s response highlights the ongoing debate about the country’s security challenges and the role of political leaders in addressing them. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the APC and other stakeholders will work together to find lasting solutions to the insecurity plaguing the region.
