The Federal Government of Nigeria has affirmed that the country is moving in the right direction under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership as the nation celebrates its 65th anniversary of independence. At a world press conference in Abuja on Monday, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume and Minister of Information Mohammed Idris presented their assessments of Nigeria’s progress.
Senator Akume said Independence Day is a time for reflection, acknowledging both the trials and triumphs Nigeria has experienced since gaining independence in 1960. He emphasized that, despite challenges, the Nigerian spirit remains unbroken.
Minister Idris highlighted several economic indicators that illustrate the country’s positive trajectory. He pointed to a decline in inflation to 21.12 percent, falling food prices, and stability in the value of the naira. He also cited improved oil production, increased revenue to states, and growing external reserves as evidence of progress. According to Idris, these developments testify to the effective reforms implemented under President Tinubu’s administration.
Idris attributed the nation’s advancement to President Tinubu’s efforts to remove obstacles hindering growth, noting that the president is laying the groundwork for a national renewal focused on prosperity, peace, and unity. He urged Nigerians to maintain faith in the country and in Tinubu’s vision for a renewed, greater nation.
This year’s Independence Day theme, “Nigeria 65: All hands on deck for greater Nation,” reflects the government’s emphasis on collective effort and cooperation to drive development. As Nigeria marks this milestone, the government’s affirmation of progress under President Tinubu serves as a call to action for citizens to contribute to continued growth and prosperity. With a renewed sense of purpose, Nigerians can work together to address the nation’s challenges and build a brighter future.
