The Amplifying African Voices for Strategic Action (AFSA) Conference 2025 will be held from November 21‑27, 2025, at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Hosted by the African Centre for the Study of the United States (ACSUS) in partnership with multiple organizations, the conference serves as a side gathering of the G20 Summit convened by the South African government. Its theme, “Africa in the G20: Advancing Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability,” reflects a commitment to shaping Africa’s role in global affairs.

Building on the success of AFSA 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, the 2025 event will explore a range of topics, including African agency, climate solutions, AI innovation, trade, and peace‑building. Participants will have the chance to engage with leading scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to promote African agency in a multipolar world. The conference aims to analyze relationships between African nations and external powers, propose alternatives for balanced partnerships, and amplify African voices so that African priorities are reflected in G20 agendas.

The program will be organized around keynote speeches, plenary sessions, roundtable discussions, and panel debates. Sub‑themes and tracks will focus on conceptualizing African agency, geopolitics, communicating African agency, and expressing agency through arts and culture. Sponsorship opportunities are available, offering benefits such as branding, speaking slots, and acknowledgment as a partner in knowledge‑production outputs. Sponsorship categories range from Platinum to Bronze, each with specific benefits and investment levels.

The conference expects to host roughly 300 participants from across Africa, representing universities, think tanks, governmental bodies, diplomatic missions, international organizations, civil society, and businesses. Outcomes will be published in books and journals, providing a lasting record of the discussions. With the G20 Summit as a backdrop, the AFSA Conference 2025 offers a unique platform for African voices to be heard, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among international stakeholders.
