Kano govt suspends Sheikh Triumph from preaching — Daily Nigerian

The Kano State Shura Council has suspended prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Lawal Triumph from conducting preaching sessions in the state while an investigation into several petitions and counter‑petitions against him proceeds. The petitions arose after video clips of his sermons, which contained controversial remarks, sparked widespread debate and criticism. In response, the Kano State Government directed that all related petitions be referred to the Shura Council for detailed review and advice.

Shehu Sagagi, the Council’s Secretary, explained that the suspension is a precautionary measure intended to give Sheikh Triumph an opportunity to defend himself. A committee has been formed to formally invite the cleric to present his case. Sagagi assured the public that the Council will ensure justice and fairness for all parties and that the investigation’s findings will be made public.

The Council’s decision to halt Sheikh Triumph’s preaching activities is viewed as a step toward preserving peace and stability in the state. Sagagi emphasized the need to avoid actions or comments that could tarnish the reputation of politicians and Islamic scholars, underscoring the importance of responsible and respectful public discourse. As the investigation unfolds, the Kano State Shura Council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and balancing individual rights with social harmony and respect for the law. The public can expect a thorough, impartial investigation, with the results disclosed in due course.
