A violent attack on the family of a traditional ruler in Ondo State, Nigeria, has been confirmed by the police. The incident occurred on Friday in Idogun Community, Ose Local Government Area, when the wife and son of Oba Moses Bakare, the Onidogun of Idogun, were assaulted by a group of irate youths. The assault took place at Ishara Quarters during the celebration of the New Yam Festival.

Prince Victor Bakare, the ruler’s son, had visited his parents to join the festivities when the attack began. According to police spokesperson DSP Olushola Ayanlade, both the prince and his mother were targeted, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The prince alleges that the attackers inflicted injuries on him, humiliated his family by stripping his mother half‑naked, and poured urine and other filthy substances on him. The traditional ruler himself was also reportedly physically assaulted.

The police have assured the public that they are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served. The attack has raised concerns about the safety and security of community leaders in the region, prompting calls for increased security measures to protect traditional rulers and their families, who play important roles in maintaining social order and resolving conflicts.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging witnesses to come forward with information that may aid in the arrest and prosecution of those responsible. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and many await the outcome of the investigation and the actions that will be taken to prevent similar attacks in the future.
