The father of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has petitioned the Lagos State Government to prosecute those indicted in his son’s death. Joseph Aloba’s petition, addressed to the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, calls for the prosecution of Omowunmi Aloba, Mohbad’s widow, and Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to the singer shortly before his death in September 2023.
The petition, signed by Aloba’s lawyer, Wahab Shittu, also requests that other individuals present in Mohbad’s apartment at the time be brought to justice, particularly those who invited the nurse or failed to seek immediate medical help. This demand follows the Coroner’s verdict delivered in July 2025 by Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, which found the nurse’s actions to be “unlawful and professionally negligent” due to the administration of an injection without a doctor’s prescription. Additionally, the magistrate faulted Mohbad’s wife for opting to treat her husband at home rather than taking him to a medical facility.
The Coroner’s report has sparked concerns about the handling of the case, with Aloba’s lawyer expressing concern that more than two months have passed without the initiation of criminal proceedings against the indicted parties. The petition urges the Attorney-General to commence prosecution within 14 days, citing the high sensitivity and public interest surrounding the case. If the state declines to act, the lawyer has requested formal authorization to prosecute the matter on behalf of the state under the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State.
