Ebenezer Obey urges graduates to use their knowledge for positive change

Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey‑Fabiyi, the celebrated music legend, urged Nigerian students to apply their knowledge and skills toward positive change and national development. He delivered this message at the signing‑out ceremony for 79 graduates of the sixth cohort of Al‑Hikmah University, Ilorin, held at the Ebenezer Obey Music and Life Skills Institute, Abeokuta Centre, on Saturday. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the graduates, who came from diverse departments such as Accounting, Computer Science, Business Administration, and Mass Communication.

Obey‑Fabiyi stressed that the graduates should embody discipline, hard work, and service to humanity in all their achievements. He also highlighted the institute’s mission to empower young people and give back to society through education and moral development. Dr. Lateef Mustapha, Director of the Centre for Part‑Time and Professional Studies at Al‑Hikmah University, described the graduation as a celebration of resilience, creativity, and lifelong learning. He noted that the partnership between the university and the institute demonstrates that higher education must extend beyond classroom instruction to include moral discipline, entrepreneurship, and community service. Mustapha reminded the graduates that their true success will be measured by the positive impact they make in society, not merely by their grades.

Professor Sabiru Adesanya, former Vice‑Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, commended the institute for its role in human capacity development and urged the graduates to remain worthy ambassadors of the institution. Institute director Mr. Adekunle Durosinmi called the event a milestone in the institute’s journey toward excellence, emphasizing that the growing number of graduates reflects students’ confidence in the centre’s academic and professional programmes.

The ceremony reinforced the importance of education and skill development in driving national growth. As the graduates embark on their professional journeys, they are expected to make positive contributions in their respective fields, furthering the country’s progress. The event also highlighted the need for institutions to blend moral values with skill‑based learning, preparing students for real‑world challenges. With the institute’s commitment to maintaining high standards and expanding opportunities, future generations of graduates are likely to be equally equipped to make meaningful differences in society.
