The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti‑Corruption Commission has opened an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of more than N4 billion in state funds earmarked for the Dala Inland Dry Port project. The probe focuses on the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, during which the money is said to have been diverted. Reports indicate that the funds were used to finance a contract for infrastructure development at the port shortly after the state’s 20 % equity in the company was transferred to Ganduje’s family in 2020. That transfer removed Kano State as a co‑owner and installed Ganduje’s children as directors and shareholders, yet the contract was awarded despite the state no longer holding any ownership.
The commission’s investigation is now at an advanced stage, and several persons of interest have already been summoned for questioning. One individual was arrested, later released on bail after providing useful information, according to Saidu Yahya, Chairman of the PCACC. Yahya said the commission has established a prima facie case and intends to take the matter to court once the inquiry is complete. Another person of interest is currently residing in Yola, Adamawa State.
The case raises serious concerns about potential corruption and abuse of power in the handling of public funds and state assets. The Dala Inland Dry Port project was intended to boost economic development in Kano State, but the alleged diversion of funds has cast doubt on the project’s viability and the transparency of the state’s financial dealings. The PCACC’s investigation aims to uncover the truth behind the alleged misappropriation and to hold those responsible accountable.
As the investigation nears completion, its findings are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged diversion of funds. The outcome will have significant implications for the management of public resources and the fight against corruption in Nigeria, and any subsequent legal action will be closely watched as a possible precedent for addressing similar cases of alleged corruption in the country.
