Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has reaffirmed his commitment to combating criminality and ensuring peace in the state. During a visit to Isanlu‑Esa in Yagba West Local Government Area, he vowed to defeat criminals and activities that hinder development in the region. The trip was prompted by recent kidnappings and killings in the Okunran, Okoloke, and Isanlu‑Esa communities, which have heightened tension in the area.
Governor Ododo was received by Brigadier‑General K. U. Sidi, commander of the Nigerian Army operation. He praised the combined efforts of security agencies—including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Department of State Services, and special forces—in addressing criminality. The governor expressed appreciation for their synergy, assured them of his administration’s support, and pledged to help them triumph over crime. He also paid tribute to the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, assuring their families that their sacrifices would not be in vain.
Ododo cautioned traditional rulers against indiscriminate allocation of land to unknown individuals, emphasizing the need for proper profiling of those holding mining licenses to prevent security breaches. He reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s support in ensuring peace and security across Kogi and Nigeria, commending the National Security Adviser and security chiefs for effectively implementing the president’s policies.
Brigadier‑General Sidi thanked the governor for his sustained support, noting that it has strengthened the security agencies’ capacity to secure the area. The traditional ruler of Isanlu‑Esa, Oba Olufemi Theophilus, also thanked the governor, describing the visit as a demonstration of responsive and responsible leadership. He appealed for continued security presence until criminal activities are eradicated and urged the Federal Government to repair the road leading to the community to facilitate free movement and enhance security operations.
The governor’s visit and commitment underscore the importance of collaborative efforts between government agencies and local communities in addressing security challenges. As the state continues to grapple with kidnappings and killings, Ododo’s reassurance of his administration’s support to security agencies is crucial for restoring peace and stability. Effective implementation of security measures will be instrumental in safeguarding lives and property, ultimately contributing to the development of Kogi State.
