Prithvi Shaw was involved in a heated exchange with Mumbai players during a warm-up match between Maharashtra and Mumbai on October 7. The incident occurred after Shaw was dismissed for 181 runs off 220 balls, having tried to sweep a delivery from Musheer Khan. As he walked back, he was seen arguing with the opposition players, prompting the umpire to intervene.

Shaw’s impressive innings included 21 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 82.27, helping Maharashtra post a total of 465/3 declared after 81 overs. In reply, Mumbai ended the day on 23/1 from seven overs, trailing by 442 runs.

This warm-up match is a significant one for Shaw, who is set to make his Ranji Trophy comeback with Maharashtra after playing for Mumbai in the 2024-25 season. Shaw had a poor run with Mumbai, scoring only 59 runs from four innings, and was subsequently dropped due to form and fitness concerns. His last Ranji Trophy match was against Maharashtra, where he scored 40 runs across both innings.

Shaw sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Mumbai and shifted his base to Maharashtra earlier this year. Since then, he has shown solid form, marking his Maharashtra debut with a century in the Buchi Babu Tournament in August 2025. With the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season set to begin on October 15, Shaw will be keen to have a strong season with the bat. Maharashtra is placed in the Elite Group B and will face Kerala in their opening clash.

The incident between Shaw and the Mumbai players has added a layer of intensity to the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. As the teams prepare for the tournament, Shaw’s form and his new team’s performance will be closely watched. With his impressive century in the warm-up match, Shaw has sent a strong message about his intentions for the upcoming season.
