FCT: You can't name streets in roads I constructed - Wike warns AMAC chair, Maikalangu

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that 2026 will be a transformative year for Abuja, with a significant infrastructural turnaround expected. According to Wike, residents can anticipate a massive improvement in the city’s infrastructure, unlike anything seen before. This announcement was made during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of Collector Road CN2, Emmanuel I. Ogala Street, which will connect Arterial N16 to N20, including road ILS 5 within Katampe District.

Wike stated that the forthcoming year will witness an unprecedented level of infrastructural development in the FCT, which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in February. The Minister emphasized that his team is committed to delivering on this promise, despite anticipated challenges. Specifically, Wike mentioned the Abuja Light Up project, which he believes will face sabotage and resistance. He recalled a recent incident where the airport was left without lighting upon the President’s return from Lagos, citing this as an example of the obstacles they may encounter.

Despite these challenges, Wike reaffirmed his determination to push forward with the project, vowing not to be deterred by saboteurs. He emphasized that his team is resolute in their efforts to provide infrastructural development in Abuja, with the Light Up Abuja project being a top priority. The Minister’s commitment to this project is unwavering, and he has forewarned potential saboteurs that his team is prepared to overcome any obstacles.

The anticipated infrastructural developments in Abuja are expected to have a significant impact on the city and its residents. As the FCT approaches its 50th anniversary, the government’s focus on improving the city’s infrastructure is seen as a crucial step towards enhancing the quality of life for its inhabitants. With the Minister’s assurance that his team is dedicated to delivering on these promises, residents can look forward to a brighter future for Abuja. The successful implementation of these projects will be crucial in determining the city’s growth and development in the years to come.
