The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced that 2026 will be a transformative year for Abuja, with a significant infrastructural turnaround expected. The announcement was made during the flag‑off ceremony for the construction of Collector Road CN2, Emmanuel I. Ogala Street, which will connect Arterial N16 to N20 and include road ILS 5 within Katampe District.
Wike said the forthcoming year will witness an unprecedented level of infrastructural development in the FCT, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in February. He emphasized that his team is committed to delivering on this promise despite anticipated challenges. In particular, he highlighted the Abuja Light Up project, warning that it may face sabotage and resistance. He recalled a recent incident in which the airport was left without lighting when the President returned from Lagos, citing it as an example of the obstacles they may encounter.
Nevertheless, Wike reaffirmed his determination to push forward with the project, vowing not to be deterred by saboteurs. He stressed that his team is resolute in its efforts to provide infrastructural development in Abuja, with the Light Up Abuja project being a top priority.
