I was vomiting blood for six months - 9ice recounts 'spiritual attack'

Nigerian musician Abolore Adegbola Akande, known professionally as 9ice, has announced plans to get a tribal mark at the age of 50. In a recent video posted on his TikTok page, the 45-year-old singer revealed that he intends to get the mark in honor of his father, who bears the same traditional symbol.

9ice, who was born in Ogbomosho, stated that getting the tribal mark is a personal goal he aims to achieve on his 50th birthday. He mentioned that some of his friends have expressed skepticism about his decision, but he is determined to go through with it. The singer is known for his distinctive use of the Yoruba language in his music, as well as his unique style of delivery and proverbial lyrics.

9ice gained widespread recognition with his hit track “Gongo Aso” in 2008 and has since released several successful albums and singles. In a recent interview with Nancy Isime in August 2025, he disclosed that he is a traditional worshiper, having converted after seeking help from an Ifa priest during a period of spiritual crisis. The singer reported that he had been experiencing a “spiritual attack” that caused him to vomit blood for six months, but was healed after visiting the priest.

9ice has expressed regret over not embracing traditional worship earlier in his life. His decision to get a tribal mark at 50 is a significant one, as it reflects his deepening connection to his cultural heritage. As a prominent figure in Nigerian music, 9ice’s actions and beliefs are likely to generate interest and discussion among his fans and the wider public. With his 50th birthday still a few years away, it remains to be seen whether he will follow through on his plans to get a tribal mark, but his commitment to his cultural roots is evident.
