Canadian-American singer Neil Young has announced his decision to remove his music from Amazon, citing the company’s support for President Donald Trump and his administration. In a statement on his website, Young urged fans to “BUY LOCAL” and “BUY DIRECT” while boycotting giant corporations like Amazon and Whole Foods.
Young’s decision is reportedly in response to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’s perceived support for the Trump administration. The singer called on people to support their local communities and businesses, rather than relying on large corporations. He also referenced the recent US government shutdown, accusing the administration of jeopardizing citizens’ income, safety, and health security.
This is not the first time Young has spoken out against Trump. In April 2025, he called Trump “the worst president in the history of our great country” on his website. Young has also been critical of Trump’s feud with fellow singer Bruce Springsteen, and has released a protest song, “Big Crime,” which appears to be aimed at the president.
Young’s music was previously removed from Spotify in 2022, in protest of the platform’s hosting of Joe Rogan’s podcast, which Young accused of spreading misinformation about COVID vaccines. However, he later resumed streaming on Spotify after discovering that Apple Music and Amazon had also begun hosting Rogan’s podcast.
It is unclear whether Young’s boycott of Amazon will extend to his physical products, or if it will be limited to his music on the platform. The move is seen as a significant statement from the singer, who has a long history of using his platform to speak out on social and political issues.
Young’s decision to remove his music from Amazon is the latest example of his willingness to take a stand against what he sees as corporate control and government overreach. As a prominent figure in the music industry, his actions are likely to be closely watched and may inspire others to follow suit.
