Dangote Refinery Supplies 20m Litres Petrol Daily

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has announced that the Dangote refinery is supplying approximately 20 million liters of petrol daily across the country. This revelation was made by the Chief Executive Officer of the NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed, at the Association of Energy Correspondents of Nigeria’s annual conference in Lagos.

According to Ahmed, the Dangote refinery’s operation has significantly altered the supply dynamics of petroleum products in the country. The refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is making an average daily contribution of up to 20 million liters of petrol. Ahmed expressed hopes that this contribution will increase in the future. The NMDPRA spokesperson, George Ene-Ita, represented Ahmed at the conference.

The national daily consumption of petrol in Nigeria is around 50 million liters, according to Ahmed. The Dangote refinery’s current supply of 20 million liters daily accounts for a significant portion of this consumption. Ahmed emphasized the need to encourage the refinery to increase its production to meet local consumption and supply demands.

To enhance energy security, Ahmed stressed the importance of operationalizing petroleum product stocks in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021. This would provide a buffer against major supply disruptions. The authority’s announcement highlights the crucial role the Dangote refinery is playing in Nigeria’s petroleum supply chain.

As the country’s largest refinery, Dangote’s contribution to the national petrol supply is substantial. With the refinery’s current production capacity, Nigeria is moving closer to achieving energy self-sufficiency. The authority’s efforts to promote local refining and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products are expected to continue, with a focus on strengthening energy security and meeting national demand.
