Tinubu Appoints Amupitan as INEC Chairman

The North-Central All Progressives Congress Forum has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission. Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Kogi State, will oversee Nigeria’s electoral system.

The Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, released a statement in Abuja, praising the National Council of State for approving Amupitan’s appointment. The Forum expressed pride in Amupitan’s selection, citing his track record as a legal scholar, practitioner, and university administrator. They assured President Tinubu and Nigerians that Amupitan will deliver credible elections during his tenure.

As a Professor of Law at the University of Jos, Amupitan has lectured and mentored generations of lawyers and academics for over three decades. The Forum believes his experience and capacity make him an ideal choice for the role. They called on Nigerians, particularly stakeholders in the electoral system, to support Amupitan in his new position.

The appointment of Amupitan is seen as a testament to the North-Central region’s caliber of human resources. The Forum thanked President Tinubu for recognizing the region’s potential and selecting one of its own for the critical role. With crucial elections approaching, the Forum’s endorsement of Amupitan highlights the importance of his position in ensuring free and fair elections in Nigeria.

The development is significant, as it demonstrates the government’s commitment to selecting qualified candidates for key positions. The National Council of State’s approval of Amupitan’s appointment underscores the importance of consensus-building in Nigeria’s governance structure. As Amupitan begins his tenure, his performance will be closely watched by Nigerians and the international community, with expectations high for credible and transparent elections.
