The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has annulled the suspension of several party members, previously imposed by the dissolved State Working Committee. This development follows the dissolution of the Enugu State Working Committee by the APC National Working Committee (NWC), which subsequently established a caretaker committee led by Barrister Ben Nwoye.
Upon his arrival from Abuja, Nwoye declared the suspensions null and void in his first public address. The gathering at the APC Secretariat in Enugu was attended by a large number of party leaders and supporters. Notable individuals affected by the suspensions included former Senate President Ken Nnamani, ex-Governor Sullivan Chime, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama, among others.
Nwoye described the previous suspensions as a “political caricature” that undermined the party’s strength and unity in the state. He emphasized that all suspensions, regardless of the method of communication, are no longer valid. Nwoye questioned the logic of suspending key members, asking, “How can you suspend the very people you need to win elections?”
The caretaker chairman stressed the need for the party to rebuild and reunite, calling on leaders to embark on a reconciliation and reintegration process. This effort aims to bring back members who felt marginalized or unjustly treated. Nwoye noted that the National leadership of the party has given him a clear mandate to unite the party ahead of crucial political contests in the state.
Furthermore, Nwoye confirmed that Governor Peter Mbah has accepted to join the APC. The caretaker chairman believes that Mbah’s emergence has significantly changed the political atmosphere in Enugu, ushering in a new era for the party. With Mbah’s entry, Nwoye expects Enugu to regain lost ground and achieve significant progress. He emphasized that the governor’s decision to join the APC is driven by his commitment to his people, rather than personal interests.
The Enugu APC caretaker committee boss warned that the party can no longer afford to remain divided or silent in the evolving political landscape. He expressed confidence that, with a unified approach, the APC will play a leading role in shaping the state’s political direction. Nwoye’s statements underscore the significance of unity and strategy in the party’s efforts to regain prominence in Enugu State.
