A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on Nigeria’s service chiefs to adopt a more stringent approach in addressing violent crimes across the country. Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, Oyintiloye acknowledged the efforts of security agencies but emphasized the need for more decisive action to curb the killings in northern regions and other parts of Nigeria.
The APC chieftain expressed concern over the surge in violent attacks by suspected bandits in states such as Kwara, Borno, Zamfara, and Niger. He urged the heads of security agencies to take bold measures against those involved in these crimes and their sponsors. Oyintiloye noted that despite the efforts of security agencies, many Nigerians live in fear and anxiety, highlighting the need for service chiefs to intensify their operations against terrorist groups.
Oyintiloye stressed the importance of ensuring that security agencies are not harboring saboteurs and that they utilize their resources effectively to crush bandits and restore public confidence. He suggested that involving local security networks in intelligence gathering could be a crucial strategy in tackling the menace. By engaging stakeholders in different communities, security agencies can gather valuable intelligence to prevent terrorist activities and attacks.
The party chieftain also emphasized the need to target the financial backbone of terrorist groups to complement ongoing efforts. He commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for providing necessary support and budgetary allocation to security agencies to reduce violent crimes. With cooperation from all stakeholders and a collective display of faith, patriotism, and honesty, Oyintiloye predicted that Nigeria can eventually overcome its insecurity challenges.
The call for increased action against violent crimes comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with insecurity issues. The country has seen a rise in banditry and terrorist activities, resulting in loss of life and widespread fear among citizens. As security agencies work to address these challenges, the involvement of local communities and the targeting of terrorist financing could be key strategies in restoring peace and stability.
