Atiku Warns of Lost Hope Among Young Nigerians

Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep concern over the growing despair among young Nigerians regarding the country’s future. In a post on his Facebook page, Atiku stated that he feels saddened by the widespread lamentations among youths about the hardship, electoral fraud, and poor governance plaguing the nation.

During a recent meeting with a group of young people from the 19 Northern states, led by Alh. Adamu Bappa Gombe, Atiku was informed about the difficulties they face due to ineffective policies and the feeling that their votes do not count. The former Vice President encouraged them not to lose hope and emphasized that the desired change can only be achieved through active participation in the electoral process.

Atiku stressed that voter apathy is a significant obstacle to effecting change, citing the low voter turnout of 25% to 30% in every election cycle as a concern. He challenged the youths to make a positive impact by mobilizing their peers to participate in large numbers in the 2027 elections. Atiku reiterated his commitment to recovering Nigeria from anti-democratic forces, underscoring the importance of sustained efforts to address the country’s challenges.

The former Vice President’s concerns about the disillusionment of young Nigerians are not unfounded, given the country’s history of electoral controversies and governance issues. Nigeria has struggled with voter apathy, particularly among its youth, which has significant implications for the country’s democratic development. As the 2027 elections approach, Atiku’s call to action serves as a reminder of the need for increased civic engagement and participation in the democratic process.

Atiku’s comments come at a time when Nigeria is grappling with various socio-economic challenges, and the role of young people in shaping the country’s future has become a topic of increasing importance. By emphasizing the importance of electoral participation, Atiku is highlighting the need for collective action to address the country’s problems and ensure a more democratic and inclusive future for all Nigerians.
