A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the party’s national leadership and the Presidency to take immediate action to prevent key members from defecting. Khamis Musa Darazo, a strong supporter of President Bola Tinubu, expressed concern over reports that former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, may leave the party.
According to Darazo, Pantami’s potential departure would be a significant political setback for the APC, both in the North and nationally. He described Pantami as an intellectual, reformer, and bridge-builder who has promoted good governance and inspired young Nigerians through his knowledge, faith, and integrity. Darazo praised Pantami’s performance as a minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari, highlighting his innovative work in the communications and digital economy sector, which led to job creation and entrepreneurship growth.
The APC member warned that several influential figures within the party are considering leaving, emphasizing the need for the leadership to intervene and maintain unity and confidence. Darazo noted that losing Pantami would weaken the party’s intellectual base and moral image, potentially discouraging young Nigerians who view him as a role model for integrity and visionary leadership. He stressed that the APC’s strength lies in unity, inclusion, and visionary leadership, making every loyal member, including Pantami, crucial to the party’s success.
Pantami’s influence extends beyond party lines, and his departure could have significant implications for the APC’s reputation and appeal. As the party navigates this critical period, it remains to be seen whether the leadership will succeed in addressing the concerns of its members and preventing further defections. The outcome of these efforts will likely have a significant impact on the party’s future and its ability to maintain a strong presence in Nigerian politics.
