Ecobank Celebrates 40 Years with Focus on Inclusive Education

The Ecobank Group is marking a significant milestone in its history, celebrating 40 years of innovation, growth, and commitment to Africa’s development. As part of its annual Ecobank Day, the group will focus on enabling inclusive learning for all, with a special emphasis on children with disabilities. This year’s edition, the 13th, will take place on October 11th and reflects Ecobank’s conviction that every child deserves fair and equitable access to education.

Ecobank Day, launched in 2013, has become the group’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiative, mobilizing employees, the foundation, and partners around critical causes such as health, education, and youth empowerment. The event is a continuation of Ecobank’s three-year campaign “Transform Africa through education,” which has already trained over 20,000 young people and equipped 30 schools with modern IT laboratories.

To commemorate its 40th anniversary, Ecobank has set three key symbolic commitments. These include establishing 40 IT laboratories across Africa, training 40,000 children and young people in essential digital and AI-based skills, and launching digital training modules specifically designed for children with disabilities.

According to Jeremy Awori, CEO of Ecobank Group, “Ecobank Day is not just about giving back, it’s about who we are as a group, united by purpose and committed to Africa’s future.” Elisa Desbordes, CEO of Ecobank Foundation, added that “inclusive learning is not just a right, it’s the foundation of Africa’s future.”

As part of the Ecobank Day activities, numerous events will take place simultaneously across Ecobank’s affiliates, involving local communities, schools, NGOs, and strategic partners such as the Global Partnership for Education. These activities will help to promote inclusive education and empower the next generation through innovation and technology. By focusing on inclusive education, Ecobank aims to make a positive impact on the lives of African children and contribute to the continent’s long-term development.
