Troops arrest suspected gunrunner, wife in Kaduna — Daily Nigerian

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, arrested a suspected gunrunner and his wife in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The suspects, aged 40 and 18, were apprehended on October 8 during a coordinated operation with Operation Fansan Yamma. According to Major Samson Zhakom, the operation’s media officer, the joint troops set up a snap checkpoint on the outskirts of Saminaka, where the suspects were tracked and detained.

The arrest resulted from actionable intelligence provided by an intelligence agency in Plateau, which also led to the recovery of 1,207 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition. The ammunition is believed to have been destined for armed groups operating in the North West region of the country.

Operation Enduring Peace is a special task force tasked with maintaining peace in Plateau and parts of Kaduna and Bauchi states. This operation forms part of ongoing efforts to address the security challenges in the region. The suspects and the seized ammunition are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.

The capture of the suspected gunrunner and his wife represents a significant development in curbing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons. Recovering a large quantity of ammunition is a major setback for armed groups operating in the area. The Joint Task Force will continue to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure the safety of the region’s residents. This operation underscores the essential coordination among security agencies in confronting the nation’s security challenges, helping to reduce the capacity of armed groups to carry out attacks and contributing to overall stability.
