Kevin Federline has addressed speculation surrounding the timing of his upcoming memoir, “You Thought You Knew,” in relation to the end of child support payments from his ex-wife, Britney Spears. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Federline stated that while he hopes the book is successful, “money is not at the root of this story, [and] it never has been.”

The memoir, scheduled for release on October 21, 2025, is a 228-page account of Federline’s life, written from his perspective. He shares two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with Spears. According to Federline, the project was years in the making, as he wanted his children to be old enough to understand the book’s intent. He emphasized that “everything has always been about my family.”

Federline’s net worth is estimated at $700,000, according to Celebrity Net Worth. His career in the entertainment industry spans multiple fields, including music, modeling, and television. He first gained fame as a backup dancer for notable artists such as Michael Jackson, Pink, and Destiny’s Child. His marriage to Spears from 2004 to 2007 brought him further into the public eye.

Following their separation, Spears reportedly paid Federline $20,000 per month in spousal and child support, which was later increased to approximately $40,000. Until their younger son turned 18 in September 2024, Spears paid an estimated $5 million in total child support.

Federline’s memoir is not a reaction to Spears’ 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” but rather an attempt to tell his story from his own perspective. A source close to Federline stated that he spent about three or four years working on the book, with the goal of providing fans with “his side of the story in depth.”

However, controversy has resurfaced, with Spears’ representative accusing Federline of “profiting off her” with the memoir’s release. The representative emphasized that Spears prioritizes her children’s well-being above all.

Federline expressed concern for his sons’ well-being, stating that he has not spoken directly to Spears “in years” but hears about her through their sons. He acknowledged being “terrified” that one day his sons might have to deal with the unimaginable and wishes that their mother would seek help.

The release of Federline’s memoir follows a long career defined by public scrutiny and family-centered narratives. While his financial history and Spears’ child support payments have drawn attention, Federline maintains that “You Thought You Knew” is a personal account written for his children and those closest to him, rather than a money-making project.
