ADC Urges Wike to Focus on Service Over Ego

'You're the greatest betrayer' - PDP group fires back at Wike

The African Democratic Congress has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to prioritize service over personal interests. This call comes after Wike’s recent criticism of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who visited a government primary school in Abuja and expressed concern over the state of its infrastructure and learning environment.

In a statement released by the ADC-FCT Publicity Secretary, Chukwudi Samuel, the party emphasized that Wike’s reaction to Obi’s comments was unbecoming of his office. The statement suggested that rather than responding defensively, the minister should have used Obi’s observations as an opportunity to address the issues and improve the situation.

According to the ADC, effective leadership is centered on providing service to the people, rather than personal ego or interests. The party noted that when a citizen, regardless of their status, highlights shortcomings in governance, a responsible leader should focus on resolving the problems rather than reacting negatively.

Wike had earlier criticized Obi’s visit to the school, where the latter decried the dilapidated infrastructure and poor learning conditions. The ADC’s statement implied that the minister’s response was misguided and that he should have instead taken action to address the issues raised by Obi.

The incident highlights the importance of constructive engagement and responsiveness in governance. By prioritizing service over personal interests, leaders can work towards creating a more positive and productive environment for citizens. In this case, the ADC’s call for the minister to focus on service is a reminder of the need for leaders to remain committed to the well-being of the people they serve.
