Herdsmen attacks: We are strong enough to defend our land - Och’Idoma declares

The Och’Idoma of Idoma Land, Agabaidu Elaigwu John Odogbo, expressed sympathy for families and communities affected by the recurring herders’ attacks in Benue South, describing the killings as a significant blow to the Idoma nation. Speaking at the Idoma Royal Banquet in Abuja, the monarch emphasized the need for unity, wisdom, and lawful courage in defending the land and preserving Idoma heritage.

He acknowledged the pain and suffering caused by these incidents, noting that several families have lost loved ones and that the resulting grief should strengthen the resolve of the Idoma people to protect their heritage within the bounds of the law. The Och’Idoma reminded his people of the strong, united nation built by their forefathers and warned that this inheritance must not crumble under present challenges.

Confident in the Idoma people’s ability to defend their land, culture, and dignity, he stated, “We are strong enough to defend our land, our culture, and our dignity, not through violence, but through lawful courage, wisdom, and unity.” His call for unity and lawful courage reflects the broader need for a collective response to the security concerns raised by the ongoing herders’ attacks in Benue South.

As the Idoma nation moves forward, it will continue to grapple with balancing the need for defense with the importance of upholding the law and preserving its heritage. The Idoma people’s long history of resilience and determination is echoed in the Och’Idoma’s words, which underscore a commitment to these values. The evolving situation in Benue South will be closely watched by the international community, which will observe how the Idoma people and the Nigerian government respond to these challenges. The monarch’s message of unity and lawful courage is likely to resonate both within Nigeria and abroad, as observers seek to understand the complexities of this ongoing crisis.
