The Taraba State chapter of the Labour Party has formed a caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs after the previous executives’ tenure expired. The inauguration ceremony was held on Monday at the party’s state secretariat in Jalingo, attended by party leaders, members, and supporters.
Outgoing Chairperson Dr. Esther Johnson Gulmu, now Deputy National Vice Chairman for the North East, described the transition as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and peaceful transfer of leadership. She reaffirmed the party’s commitment to democratic principles, commended the outgoing executive for its service, and congratulated the newly appointed officials, urging them to work together to consolidate the party’s presence and influence across the state.
The new caretaker chairman, Rev. Simon Zubairu, thanked the party’s National Secretariat for its confidence in the team. He pledged to justify that trust, praised Governor Agbu Kefas’ peace initiatives, and promised a leadership focused on unity and progress. Other members of the caretaker committee are Augustine Bazin, James Benjamin, Andrew Audu, Deborah Chenny, Lydia Johnson, Emmanuel Peter, Zinox Enoch, Buba Yaro, and Hajiya Fatima Muhammed.
Party members have expressed optimism about the Labour Party’s future in Taraba, pledging full support to the new leadership. The establishment of the caretaker committee is seen as a significant step toward ensuring the party’s continued growth and influence in the state. With the new leadership in place, the party is expected to strengthen its position and prepare for future elections. The Labour Party’s commitment to democratic principles and peaceful transitions of leadership is notable within Nigeria’s political landscape, and its focus on unity and progress aligns with broader goals of stability and development in the region. As the caretaker committee begins its work, it will encounter challenges and opportunities that will shape the future of the Labour Party in Taraba State.
