Kogi Coalition Slams Senator Over Tinubu Rally Comments

Tinubu's ban on foreign goods major boost for Nigerian economy — Stakeholders

A political coalition in Kogi State, the Kogi Alliance for Renewed Hope (KARH), has criticized comments made by Senator Sunday Steve Karimi regarding a recent pro-Tinubu endorsement rally. The senator, representing Kogi West, had suggested that citizens were being “bullied” into supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement, KARH described Senator Karimi’s remarks as “misguided and inconsistent with the political mood in Kogi State.” The group argued that the turnout at the rally reflected a voluntary expression of confidence in the President’s administration, citing visible improvements in infrastructure, fair appointments, and renewed federal attention to the state.

The rally, attended by community leaders and party supporters across the three senatorial districts, was seen as a symbol of grassroots unity rather than political manipulation. KARH noted that many of the ongoing road projects and empowerment initiatives in Kogi are direct outcomes of the current administration’s policies.

The coalition emphasized that residents of the state understand and appreciate the developmental direction of the federal government and would not be influenced by political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 elections. According to KARH, the message of support for President Tinubu is consistent across the state, from Lokoja to Okene, Kabba to Ankpa, due to the practical results of his administration’s policies.

KARH appealed to political actors in the state to avoid divisive statements and instead collaborate to sustain Kogi’s relevance within the All Progressives Congress (APC). The group stressed that unity is essential for the state’s progress and development, stating that “Kogi must remain united” and that political differences should not overshadow collective interests.

The controversy surrounding Senator Karimi’s comments highlights the complex political landscape in Kogi State, where various groups and individuals are vying for influence ahead of the 2027 elections. As the political environment continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold and what impact it will have on the state’s relationship with the federal government.
