Abia Governor Otti Denies Defecting to APC

Abia Govt insists on Otti's loyalty to LP, dismisses fresh APC defection rumour

The Abia State government has denied reports claiming Governor Alex Otti has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressive Congress, APC. According to a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, on Monday, Governor Otti remains a committed member of the Labour Party, which he used as a platform to win the election.

The denial comes after a picture of Governor Otti’s visit to Governor Peter Mbah, who recently defected to the APC, was shared online. Some individuals from Abia State had suggested that the visit was an indication of Governor Otti’s intention to join the APC. However, the Abia State government has described the reports as “fabrication by political propagandists.”

Commissioner Kanu emphasized that Governor Otti’s focus on rebuilding Abia, restoring accountability, and delivering democracy dividends to citizens remains unwavering. He advised the public to disregard the defection reports, labeling them as “cheap propaganda.”

The Labour Party had overwhelmingly supported Governor Otti’s election, and his commitment to the party’s ideals is unchanged. As the Governor continues to work towards fulfilling his campaign promises, the Abia State government has reassured citizens that his allegiance to the Labour Party remains strong.

In the context of Nigerian politics, party defections are not uncommon, and such reports often generate speculation. However, the Abia State government’s swift denial of the reports has helped to clarify Governor Otti’s position. With the Governor’s priorities firmly set on developing Abia State, his administration will likely continue to face scrutiny from various quarters, including the media and the public.

As the situation unfolds, it is essential for the public to rely on verified information and official statements from the Abia State government to stay informed about Governor Otti’s political stance and his administration’s progress. By doing so, citizens can make informed decisions and engage constructively with the government’s efforts to rebuild and restore Abia State.
