Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid Gets Ohanaeze Ndigbo Boost

Nigeria's tax-to-GDP ratio rises to 13.5% - Tinubu

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo community in Lagos State has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections. This declaration was made by Chief Sunday Udeh, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, during a reconciliation meeting convened by Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement. The meeting aimed to foster harmony between Yoruba and Igbo residents following recent demolitions in the state.

According to Udeh, President Tinubu is an experienced leader who understands governance and deserves another term in 2027. He stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win again, adding that he has no doubts about the party’s victory. Udeh urged both ethnic groups to continue living in peace and mutual respect, warning against sentiments capable of creating divisions.

The Ohanaeze leader called on the Lagos State Government to engage with the Igbo community and other ethnic groups to ensure inclusiveness and unity. Relations between Igbos and the Lagos government had become strained after the 2023 elections, but Udeh assured that renewed dialogue and collaboration would help strengthen mutual trust.

Deacon Charles Obih, National President of the Market Leaders Association of Nigeria, also pledged the support of the Igbo business community for President Tinubu’s re-election bid. Obih praised the President’s leadership, describing him as a capable and pragmatic leader who inherited difficult national challenges but has continued to address them with determination.

Dr. Okey Anorue, Eze Ndigbo of Igbogbo/Bayeku and Babaloja of Tejuosho Market, called for unity and understanding between the Igbo and Yoruba communities. He emphasized the need for both groups to strengthen their bond ahead of the 2027 elections to prevent political actors from exploiting ethnic sentiments. Anorue urged Igbos in Lagos to reject any attempts by politicians to incite conflict, stressing that mutual respect and cooperation are key to the state’s continued development.

The recent meeting and declarations highlight the importance of unity and cooperation between different ethnic groups in Lagos State, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach. With the APC and its supporters expressing confidence in President Tinubu’s re-election bid, the coming months are likely to be marked by increased political activity and campaigning.
